What is Title I? BES is one of 13 schools in Bulloch County identified as a Title I school per the 2018 Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Title I is designed to support state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state academic standards in order to reinforce and enhance the efforts to improve teaching and learning for students. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parental involvement. All Title I schools must jointly develop with all parents a written Parent & Family Engagement Policy/Plan.

BES Supports Achievement! BES will take the following measures to promote and support parents as an important foundation of the school in order to strengthen the school and reach our school goals. We will:

  • Communicate with families and the community on a regular basis regarding school wide events and activities via call outs, flyers and newsletters.
  • Conduct staff development annually on family engagement practices and effective strategies for staff to communicate and build partnerships with parents.
  • Partner with Southeast Bulloch Middle School to share information about family engagement opportunities that will help prepare parents and their children for a smooth transition to the middle school.
  • Distribute information in English and Spanish for parents to understand the school's academic standards and assessments, as well as the ways parents can monitor their child's progress and work with educators.
  • Work with parents/guardians to develop relevant trainings and helpful presentations to educate them on how to help their child achieve academic success.
  • Listen and respond to parents'/guardians' requests for additional support for family activities to better meet parents needs.
  • Maintain a Family Resource Center to help parents establish a home learning environment.

BES Plan for Shared Student Achievement (Parent & Family Engagement Plan)

What is it? Brooklet Elementary values the contributions and involvement of our parents in order to establish an equal partnership for the common goal of improving student achievement. This plan describes the different ways Brooklet Elementary will encourage and support  family engagement. It also addresses opportunities where parents/guardians can participate in activities and events that will help promote their child's learning at school and home.

How is it revised? Brooklet Elementary invited all parents to attend our annual Parent Input Forum last spring to review and revise the Parent and Family Engagement Plan, School Improvement Plan, School-Parent Compact and Family Engagement Budget. The plan is posted on our school website for parents to view and submit feedback throughout the school year. All parent feedback received during the year will be used to revise the plan for the next school year. We also distribute an annual spring parent input survey online to ask parents for their suggestions for the plan and the use of funds for family engagement. Parents can also give feedback during parent meetings and activities that are held throughout the school year including our Speak Up for Education event.

What is it for? All students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, are encouraged and invited to fully participate in the opportunities described in this plan. Brooklet Elementary will provide full opportunity for the participation of parents/guardians with limited English, parents/guardians with disabilities, and parents/guardians of migratory children. Residential facilities in the school attendance area are included in any family engagement correspondence and activities as well.

Where is it available? The plan will be sent home with all students before November 1, 2019. Parents/Guardians can also retrieve a copy of the plan from the school's front office staff, the Family Resource Center or the BES website (click here for page 1 of the plan) (click here for page 2 of the plan).

What is Parent and Family Engagement? Brooklet Elementary believes that family engagement means the consistent participation of parents/guardians in a meaningful two-way communication involving student academic learning and other school activities. We believe:

  • That parents/guardians play an integral role in assisting their child's learning.
  • That parents/guardians are encouraged to be actively involved in their child's education at school.
  • That parents/guardians are full partners in their child's education and are included, as appropriate, in the decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.

School-Parent Compact - As part of this plan, Brooklet Elementary School and our families will develop a School-Parent Compact. This compact is an agreement to explain how parents/guardians and teachers will work together to make sure all students reach grade-level standards. The compact will be reviewed and updated annually based on feedback from parents/guardians, students, and teachers received throughout the school year. The School-Parent Compact is kept with each child's teacher. If parents/guardians need a copy of the compact, it can be found on the school's website or a copy can be obtained from the school's front office.

BES Family Resource Center - The Family Resource Center is filled with educational games, books, and free brochures. The Family Resource Center is located in room 129 and is open during school hours.  For more information, please call Sherry Jordan, Family Engagement Specialist at (912)618-0287 or
